WEEK 49: Czeching Out Prague

Birthday week continues with a trip to Prague with the girls over the weekend. When sharing my weekend plans with people during the week the general responses tended to be; Oh I hear Prague is beautiful! Look out for all the stag-dos! and make sure you try the Goulash! Well to summarise - tick, tick, tick they could not have been more bang on.

It was a verrrrrry early start Saturday morning to be at the airport for our 7am flight. If i'm being honest I remember very little between waking up and getting on the plane. As you can imagine we all snoozed for the hour and a half plane ride.

A smooth and steady flight, upon arrival we hitched a cab ride to our hotel. The driver spoke very little english, but he seemed to work out that we were tourists and proceeded to ladened us with tourist guides. He also told us that the town has a big problem with 'Pick-pockets'. With the broken English it took us a while to determine exactly what he was trying to say. Brooke later told us she was sure he was saying 'Big Baguettes' and wondering why on earth we need to be cautious of this??? Needless to say it became the running joke of the trip, whenever we walked past a baguette shop we'd all be like "Watch out Brooke there's some big baguettes coming up".

After we settled into our room, and stopped laughing over the above we set out for some food. About a 20 minute walk from our hotel we agreed on a place to eat. None of us were left disappointed. One of the tastiest Risotto's I've had in my life time.

After lunch it was time to meet our guide for our walking tour of Prague. Although it was rainy and a little chilly, we pushed through our 3 hour tour learning lots about the vast history of the town. Our guide gave us some great restaurant recommendations and just general advice on things to look out for/scammers etc.

We had planned on having a nap before dinner however by the time we got back to our hotel following the tour there really wasn't a lot of time. We powered on through excited to have a fancy meal (following our guides recommendation) and hitting the town.

Cafe Imperial was where we ate, a ten minute walk from our hotel. They were extremely accommodating when they realised I'd messed up the online booking and squeezed us in despite being fully booked.

We all opted for the lamb shank, while there were many other delicious sounding items on the menu we all knew we'd get food envy if the lamb shank looked better than whatever else we'd ordered. I don't think any of us regretted our decision.

After dinner it was off to Coyotes bar, inspired by the movie 'Coyote Ugly', the bar girls do a show for us on the bar every hour. The crowd was filled with guys on stag nights, just as we were warned!

The girls doing their thing

The bar was super fun, however it was inevitable that we would wear ourselves out quickly from our 4.30am start and jam packed day.

The next morning we allowed ourselves a much deserved sleep in, heading down to breakfast 15 minutes before close. The included breakfast spread was extensive and we filled up as much as we could.

Following breakfast we headed for a local coffee shop, again recommended by our guide and then took our time walking to the historic Charles Bridge. Thankfully today was a little warmer, with fewer drops of rain.

We made it to the other side!

We loved watching these guys

On the other side of the bridge we found our way to the John Lennon wall. Such an inspirational place, changing every single day and often something forgotten about when visiting Prague.

After some snaps and people watching at the wall it was time for the climb up to the castle. Some amazing views from the top.

By the time we made it back to the hotel our feet were a little worse for wear and we needed a burst of energy. We each had a quick lie down before glamming ourselves up for dinner and a pub crawl to follow.

We met some interesting characters on the pub crawl, namely a boy band from Croatia who sang us a bunch of tunes - too fun!

Sadly the nightclub we were most looking forward to - one with five levels each with a different theme had closed off some parts of the club being a Sunday night. Not to mention the DJ on the 'Radio Hits' floor refused to play Justin Bieber despite the fact that we were the only people dancing.

But I can't lie that oldies dance floor was pretty epic. My dance moves, probably not so much.

We stumbled back to the hotel at around 2.30/3ish with a stop off at McDonalds. On a side note, the Czech's never seem to salt their fries - keep that in mind if you're ever visiting. Make sure you ask for salt!

Monday morning, a little slow from our late night we took our time having breakfast. We then walked down to the square to see the astronomical clock perform it's hourly ritual. We had been warned that this was nothing special but we still felt obliged to see it. Again what we heard was bag on, the hourly performance is really nothing special.

The beautiful astronomical clock. Still working after all these years.
Our main objective for today was too attempt to stay off our feet. I suggested a milk shake at the nearby James Dean themed dinner. Pretty cool spot.

Feeling a little full after my milkshake
We did a little shopping and then it was time for our late lunch at a fancy restaurant just off the square - my final opportunity to try Goulash. Pretty tasty stuff, and the potato dumplings were nothing to sneeze at either. Gluten Free Brookearee had the Duck which looked incredible.

Soon enough it was time to get to the airport and get back to London. A lovely weekend away with two great gals. Thanks for coming Brooke and Kate.

More adventures on the blog soon xx
