WEEK 12: London Funnies

Following the announcement of my new job, my final week at Armani seemed to fly by. Before I knew it it was Friday and it was time to say goodbye to the swanky Armani offices and the beautiful people that work there. I'm going to miss being apart of the team, I am not however going to miss wearing all black every day. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be back.

A low-key weekend, due to over indulging Friday night means I have little to report on. With that in mind I thought I'd bring to you some of the language differences I've discovered since living in London.

I'll admit I was aware of most of them before I arrived in Britain thanks to movies & TV shows, but changing my verbal filter from Aussie to Posh is easier said than done. If you're considering travelling or moving to Britain, perhaps it may be handy to brush up on you're english-speech.

Here's your go-to guide:

We'll start out slow... Vest - Singlet top
Sweets - Lollies
Flat - Apartment
Flip Flops - Thongs

Foods...
Courgette - Zucchini
Aubergine - Eggplant
Peppers - Capsicum

Other...
Thames (River that runs through London) - "Tems", the locals pronounce it in the most peculiar way given the spelling
You A'right? - How are you? or simply just a way to fill an awkward void in conversation
How you gettin on? See above description.
Quid - Bucks
Lorry - Truck, this one threw me for six when I first heard it, a what?!

The other way around, Australian terms that if said result in you sounding like a twat:

Pants - Underwear/Knickers, etc.
Thongs - G-String
Also if you do or say anything involving a knife be prepared to hear, "That's not a knife, this is a knife!" - That one was for you Tahir.

Hope this helps bring out the Brit in you.

Let's finish things off with some beautiful views of Battersea. I'd love to share some sneaky inside snaps of my new place of work but with strict rules around confidentiality I don't wanna risk it. Instead you can bask in our office views.

Peace. xx
